the hand of fatima

The Hand of Fatima interweaves two parallel journeys to Morocco separated by over 30 years: Robert Palmer’s 1971 pilgrimage to Jajouka and his daughter Augusta’s 2006 trip to the village. These two visits to Jajouka create a kaleidoscopic portrait of a music critic, his family, and his favorite band. Along the way, the film examines the creation of personal and cultural myths surrounding Jajouka, whose music and magic have been celebrated by generations of Anglo-American artists, including William Burroughs, Ornette Coleman, and the Rolling Stones.
